Flexible payment frequency
Separating how often a customer pays from how often products ship.
In many subscriptions, payment is tied to shipment: the customer pays each time a box ships. Once each product can ship on its own schedule, it can help to let the customer pay on a cycle they prefer, such as monthly, instead.
Why separate the two
- Predictable payments are easier for households to budget for.
- Customers can add more products without each one becoming a separate charge.
- The original Subundl site called paying on a preferred frequency "a significant upselling enabler".
Things to plan for
- Clear statements showing which products each payment covers.
- How to handle mid-cycle changes, such as adding or removing an item.
- Payment failures and retries.
