Bundled subscriptions explained
How bundling several products into one subscription works, and why pre-set bundles often disappoint customers.
A bundled subscription combines several products into one recurring relationship with a retailer. The customer gets one subscription to manage instead of a separate one for each product.
Pre-set bundles
A pre-set bundle is decided by the retailer: a fixed box of items sent on a fixed schedule. It is simple to run, but it assumes every customer wants the same items and uses them at the same speed. The original Subundl site summed up the problem: "Customers don't all want the same products, so why give them the same? Products don't get used at the same frequency, so why send them at the same time?"
Customer-built bundles
In a customer-built bundle, the shopper picks the products and can set a frequency for each one. One item might arrive monthly and another every second month, all within one subscription.
One subscription instead of many
Customers who subscribe to several products from the same retailer often end up with several separate subscriptions to track. Bringing them together into one subscription is simpler for the customer, and the retailer gets one view of the whole relationship.
